Stress pimples: on the face or on the body, what to do?

Stress has many impacts on our body: drop in immune defences, muscle stiffness, increased or weakened sebum production… This is how it can cause a more or less severe acne breakout. Here are some tips to fight stress pimples.

Stress pimple: what are the links between stress and acne?

In times of high stress or after several strong stressful episodes, it is not uncommon to develop acne due to stress. Stress is a bit like the “panic” button of the body, when it’s hard to channel it, everything goes a little out of order: digestion, tension, the protective functions of the body, including those of the epidermis.

When you are stressed, the sebaceous glands, responsible for the production of sebum, can intensify their production or slow it down. When sebum production is low, then you can develop dry skin, with redness and tightness. If sebum production intensifies, pores are clogged and pimples appear. This is called stress pimples.

In itself, a stress pimple is no different from a classic acne pimple. Simply, the appearance of pimples is periodic: you can have a sudden outbreak of acne with normal skin without problems. This push can be mild or very severe, affected the face or spread over the body. Of course, solutions exist.

Acne and stress: what treatment for stress pimples on the face?

When you have a stress acne breakout, the treatment must be adapted to the importance of this breakout. If you develop mild acne on your face, adapting your beauty routine for a while with specific products for acne-prone skin may be enough. Adopt non-comedogenic cosmetics, choose treatments (make-up remover, cleanser, cream) suitable for problem skin and designed to balance sebum production.

Be careful not to fall into the trap of overly stripping treatments that risk damaging your skin further. Instead, turn to parapharmacy ranges: treatment products for acne are often softer than the care of supermarkets.

If it’s a more severe stress pimple flare-up, see a dermatologist. This one will be able to analyze the type of pimple and direct you towards appropriate care. He can also give you a prescription for more powerful treatment lotions, or for antibiotics in case of significant inflammation.

Stress pimples on the body: how to treat them?

A stress pimple can appear on the face as well as on the body. Depending on the area of the body, the treatments can be different. On the neck or on the décolleté, it is possible to use the same products as for the face (cleanser and lotion or treatment cream), provided you seek the advice of a dermatologist.

One of the areas often affected is the back, especially around the shoulder blades. A scrub can then be a first step to thoroughly cleanse the area and remove excess sebum. Be sure to choose a gentle scrub without too much perfume, dyes, glitter, and other additions that could irritate the skin.

If the plaques present on the body are quite severe, the ideal is to consult a dermatologist who can prescribe an antibiotic to calm the inflammation.
